‘Claus, Chowder and Cartoons’ draws 120 to Admiral Theater
Posted on: December 12, 2015
A free family event on Saturday morning, Dec. 12, 2015, “Claus, Chowder and Cartoons,” drew 120 people to the landmark Admiral Theater, 2343 California Ave. S.W.
The fun began with the screening of an hour of classic Christmas cartoon shorts. Then “The Real Santa Claus” entertained with a 20-minute live show, followed by an opportunity for families to take photos of themselves with Santa while enjoying chowder served in the Admiral lobby by Duke’s Chowder House.
The event was a homecoming of sorts for Duke Moscrip, owner of Duke’s Chowder House, who grew up three blocks from the Admiral Theater and recalled attending movies while he was in fourth grade when the Admiral was a one-screen theater with 1,000 seats.
