Duwamish Head and Alki Point were among the earliest areas of non-Native settlement in what became Seattle, layered over generations of Coast Salish presence along these shores. Beach cottages, small hotels, streetcar lines, and gathering places once lined the waterfront, drawing residents and visitors alike. The shoreline has shifted over time, but these photographs preserve moments of daily life, recreation, and community that shaped Alki’s identity and continue to connect past and present.
